History

Up until mid 2001, Council and a community committee were investigating the options for a Wastewater Management Strategy for Broadwater to service the current population of approximately 550 people, plus an allowance for expansion.

This resulted in a report titled "Broadwater Wastewater Management Strategies" which was completed in January 2001.

Broadwater Wastewater Management Strategies Report (Please contact Council's Water Sewer Administration Assistant - Charlene Reeves by telephoning 02 6660 0267, should you wish to view this report).

Council commissioned a report which compared the various collection and transport options for Broadwater sewage. These are:

  • Conventional gravity system
  • Modified gravity system
  • Low pressure pumping (grinder pump) system
  • Vacuum system

Council staff inspected a number of local pressure pumping systems and vacuum systems. Council adopted the Pressure Sewerage System in October 2006.

In April 2007 Council adoped the Broadwater Protocol, which is a document outlining the responsibilities and requirements for the pressure sewerage system in Broadwater.  This document was based on the Wagga Wagga protocol, which is now outdated.  With the development of pressure sewerage systems in Australia, the industry has gone away from this style of document as it tried to address all of the functions associated with pressure sewerage sytems in the one document.

As a result, a new Policy for Pressure Sewerage Systems has been developed which is also supported by other documents.  **See Section on Policy documents (Pressure Sewerage - Policy).

Scheme Development

Council engaged a consultant, GHD, to carry out the design of the Broadwater Sewerage Scheme in 2007.  GHD based their detailed design on the "Broadwater Sewerage Scheme Detailed Design - Design Options Report - May 2007".

The Review of Environmental Factors (REF) for the scheme was completed by Council's consultant, Landpartners, in November 2008.

The REF was updated in May 2011 due to design changes to the rising main pipeline route and transfer pump station.
