Touring
A tour of the Richmond Valley will reveal many pleasant surprises to the motorist who explores the back roads and byways of this diverse region.
One of the most agreeable is the number of picnic grounds and barbecue areas provided for you on the roadside at beauty spots outside every village. The picturesque Lions Road has picnic grounds overlooking the Border Loop railway, and there are picnic areas in many shady forest reserves around Woodenbong and Urbenville and further west to Tabulam, Mallanganee and Bonalbo. Why not explore the Rainforest Way series of drives through the World Heritage listed rainforests and national parks?
Casino boasts numerous parks around town and along the river and just downstream from the main bridge is the Platypus pool, where you may be lucky enough to catch a glimpse of this normally shy creature. Coraki and Woodburn have excellent riverside picnic areas, which are especially popular with water skiers. The picturesque sea side township of Evans Head is geared for visitors and every effort has been made to provide amenities in all the best spots.
The Richmond Valley also boasts a variety of private operators who provide fantastic facilities for group or weekend touring.
