Suspension of Alcohol Free Zone

Please be advised that Richmond Valley Council has resolved to suspend the Alcohol Free Zone in Barker Street Casino between the numbers of 117 and 125 inclusive between
the hours of 11.00am and 6.00pm on Saturday 26 May 2012 for the purpose of a limited liquor licence (single function) as part of Beef Week Celebrations.

Rehabilitation of Council's Sewer System

Kembla WaterTech Pty. Ltd. have been engaged by Richmond Valley and Ballina Shire Council's to undertake sewer rehabilitation works in each of the respective local government areas.

The activities associated with these works may include:

  • Internal inspection of maintenance holes
  • Closed circuit television (CCTV) inspection of the sewer pipes both before and after the rehabilitation work
  • Cleaning of the sewer pipes and,
  • Installation of structural liners

This work will be carried out over a period of 3 months for the Richmond Valley Council area, and may involve several visits to properties that contain maintenance holes.

The rehabilitation program is designed to improve the performance of the sewerage system and minimise impacts on Richmond Valley Council customers. Your co-operation during this work is appreciated.

Affected residents will be notified by way of letter at least 48 hours prior to these works being undertaken in their area.  Kembla Watertech Pty. Ltd. representatives will have photo I.D's so that they can be clearly identified.

Vandalism

Richmond Valley Council is experiencing vandalism/breaking and entering to the buildings and properties under its control. The cost to the community for equipment replacement, cleaning and repairs has risen dramatically in recent years.

The community can assist Council in preventing these crimes by reporting all incidents to the Police.

If you see a crime being committed with suspects on the site please contact the Police on 000.

If the crime has been committed and the suspect has left the site please contact the Police Assistance Line on 131 444.

Council wishes to advise that the hours of operation of Council Garbage Depots are as follows:

Casino

Monday to Sunday 8.30am to 4.30pm

Bora Ridge - Coraki

Tuesday, Saturday and Sunday 8.30am to 4.30pm
Wednesday and Thursday 12.30pm to 4.30pm

Evans Head

Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday 8.30am to 4.30pm
Friday 8.30pm to 4.30pm

Rappville

Sunday 12.00pm to 4.30pm

Please Note: All garbage depots are closed Anzac Day, Good Friday, Easter Sunday, Christmas Day, New Year’s Day.

Casino Visitor Information Centre

Fire Control

Residents are reminded of their responsibility to obtain a permit from the Officer in Charge prior to the lighting of fires of any type (except constructed wood or gas barbecues) during the period 1 September to 31 March of each year, unless otherwise varied,  from the following Fire Stations:-

Street Stalls and other Fundraising Activities

Applications are invited from organisations wishing to hold street stalls in Casino, Coraki, Evans Head, Woodburn and Broadwater. Applications should be submitted in writing with a copy of your current Certificate of Currency for Public Liability Insurance to Council as soon as possible.

Disabled Parking in Casino CBD

Disabled parking spaces (bays) in the Casino CBD are located at the following points:

  • 1 in Graham Place, outside the Casino Library
  • 3 in Aldi Supermarket’s car park
  • 4 in Casino Plaza Shopping Centre car park
  • 4 in Casino RSM Shopping Centre
  • 2 in Walker Street (in front of Crazy Clark's) 
  • 1 in Barker Street near the pedestrian crossing (opposite Casino Post Office)
  • 3 in the El Grondo Car Park

Use of the bays is restricted to people with a disabled sticker issued by the Roads and Maritime Services (formerly known as the Roads and Traffic Authority).

 


 

Pesticide Notification

Notice is given of intention to spray vegetation (weeds and grasses, etc) throughout the Council area, growing along roads, headwalls, guide posts, guard rails, bikeways, parks, gardens, kerb and gutter, footpaths, cemeteries, firebreaks, wastewater plants, water plants, pump stations, landfills and the saleyards complex.

Chemicals to be used are “glyphosate 360g/l and/or 450g/l”, and “atrazine 600g/l” at the recommended rate.  The product name is Klin_Up 360 Biaquatic Herbicide, Roundup Biactive, Weedmaster Duo and Nu-trazine.  Spraying will commence on the 1 April 2012 and continue until 30 June 2012, weather permitting.

Council will also be spraying selective herbicides for the control of broadleaf weeds growing in sports fields and recreational parks.  The chemical to be used is “Dicamba 80g/l” and “MCPA 340g/l” used at the manufactures recommended rate under the product name of Kamba M.  Council will also be treating funnel ants in sports ovals using the product WebZone and/or Gard.  Signage will be displayed and further information is available on Council’s website or by contacting Bruce Coleman on 0410 405 306.
