Evans Head Aquatic Centre
Evans Head Aquatic Centre had its official start on Tuesday, 6 October with the first official sod turned by Australian Government Representative, Ms Janelle Saffin MP, Member for Page, Richmond Valley Council Mayor, Col Sullivan OAM and the President of the Evans Head Olympic Pool Committee Mr Steve Drake marking the start of the 42 Week Construction Period.

The construction of the Evans Head Aquatic Centre project has been award to Glenzeil Pty Ltd. Below is the proposed schedule of the works program.

In May this year the Minister for Youth and Sport, official announced that Richmond Valley Council was successful in the Federal Community Infrastructure Grant application for the Evans Head Aquatic Centre. The total grant is for $3.4 million
The project is for the construction of the Evans Head Aquatic Centre and will consist of the following:
- 25 metre, 8 lane pool
- Children’s wade pool with novelty facilities
- Canteen/ kiosk
- Male/ female change rooms including disabled change rooms
- First Aid room
- Office/ administration room
- Equipment store and plant rooms
- External seating and landscaping
- Fitness Centre
- Car park for 55 vehicles plus 2 additional disabled parking spaces
- Bus bay to Ash Street
- Separate service and emergency vehicle access driveway to Ash Street
Two pools are proposed. One pool will consist of a 25m, 8 lane swimming pool and a second children’s wade pool which will include novelty facilities. All pools have appropriate seating facilities to accommodate spectators and parents. All pools and swimming areas will comply with Australian Standards for pool safety. A canteen/kiosk shop will provide for the needs of the public with regard to food and beverages and swimming products. Sufficient facilities are proposed in the way of change areas and public amenities. Disabled persons facilities are also provided and an on-site management office and a first aid room in case of emergencies.
Also it is proposed to provide a fitness centre within the complex to provide additional community benefit and services. A total of fifty-seven (57) car parking spaces are proposed which includes two (2) disabled spaces.
