Social Planning
As with all Local Governments in NSW, Richmond Valley Council is in the process of transitioning to an Integrated Planning and Reporting Model. This new model of planning and reporting has removed the need for Social Planning in the future and created the need for a more long-term planning document known as the Community Strategic Plan. Unlike the Social Plan, the Community Strategic Plan does not have requirements for a focus on the particular target groups that are the basis of the Social Plan. These target groups are:
- Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders
- Aged
- Children
- People with a Disability
- Culturally and Linguistically Diverse/ Migrant communities
- Women and
- Youth
These groups are traditionally considered the hardest to engage in Council’s social planning processes.
Richmond Valley Council is already quite advanced in it Community Strategic Planning Processes and because of this, this Social Plan will be kept to a minimum.
In conjunction with the Social Plan 2004, Richmond Valley Council developed a planning mechanism known as ComPlan. ComPlan is a system developed to gather, categorise, cross-reference and publish the information necessary for Social Planning in particular; however ComPlan has a much broader scope than simply areas traditionally considered the realm of Social Planning. The data in this document could, and to some extent is, the “Executive Summary” of the areas in ComPlan relevant to Social Planning. Far more information is available about all of the various target groups by going to ComPlan.
